HOW A DREAM INSPIRED PAINTINGS...
I’m so thankful for the time I’ve been able to dedicate to art during this time of isolation. It brings me so much joy to create and it truly has been a dream for the opportunity to spend some of my time getting lost in paintings.
Today I want to share with you an intriguing thing that happened to me a few weeks back and document the inspiration behind some of the paintings.
The night of March 31st, I had a dream in where I saw an image of a finished watercolor painting I knew I had created . As the dream zoomed into it, I saw its details vividly, the subject was of a sheep composed of transparent layers of monochromatic watercolor grey tones and abstract drips. Mimicking a loose style of a previous painting of lips I had actually done in real life.
As I viewed the details in the dream, I heard a voice say these words “ My sheep hear my voice”… and as they faded away… I awoke.
The morning light pierced my eyes and as I carefully opened them..the dream, image and voice were so vividly in my mind. In excitement I quickly set out to search those words as I knew they belonged to a bible verse. Not remembering their exact location in chapter and book, I google them to quickly find them, and John 10:27 showed up…
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
John 10:27-28
As I read the verse that morning, I felt the weight of the words that came straight out of Jesus’ mouth. My heart dropped and I was shocked. In that moment that powerful and beautiful promise set in and engraved my heart. It is a beautiful reminder especially during such times, as globally we face uncertainty and crisis. No matter what we face our hope and eternal life is in Jesus! Nothing shall pluck us out of his hands not even Covid-19.
I knew right then I had to paint it. And so I did…
To my surprise that very night I had another dream, I saw another finished watercolor painting, again in the same monochromatic style of the one I saw the day earlier and this time the subject was of a person jumping mid air through mountains made up of rocks.
In the background one could see there was a faint abyss and the mountains were very steep. There were no words this time just the visual image and then I awoke, in the middle of the night.
As my eyes opened my mind vividly recollected the dream, I wrote it down in the notes of my phone so that I would remember in the morning. But to my surprise as I awoke in morning it wasn’t necessary to even look at my notes as the first thing that came to my mind was the vivid imagery. I found the image and its composition to be very interesting and I went ahead and painted it that same day.
As I painted and reflected on this image it spoke to me of the times we are currently experiencing. As the world faces uncertainty, the comparable feeling of being in mid air, not knowing what the future holds. Requiring a leap of faith, trust and boldness, knowing that our Heavenly Father is leading us… And when we find ourselves on the next side, overcoming and in a higher place, we will look back and see the growth.
How these moments as we faced crisis and uncertainty impulsed us to a new beginning and a new season by getting us out of our comfort zones.
And this is how the Quarantine Dreams collection was born. I’m so excited to announce that I have been diligently working to create and bring you a collection of Art prints from these pieces. I have been researching, sourcing materials and working on creating a high quality art print true to the original.
